Mirage or Reality?
I wonder if someone manages the images released of the various buildings and projects under development in Dubai? I think about this because the images one sees in the USA tend to convey a much more completed city skyline than is actually the case. For example, one sees images of buildings like the Burj Dubai (featured above) constantly in their completed form when anyone who lives here can tell you the reality is far from complete.

It's something that amused me when I first arrived here too. Especially in the airport, you see all those posters of completed cities - Festival, Sports, whatever, and images of apartment buildings, and you think, "Wow! These are some great options for accommodation."
You then get out into the real Dubai and find that most of them are still plans on a drawing board, years away from being completed, and the accom shortage is causing the rents to skyrocket!
They're normal, and acceptable, artist impressions of what the building/development will look like when finished. Not a problem there, in fact it's helpful to see what the end product will be.
The problem arises when it's deliberately misleading - showing a building surrounded by parkland when in fact it will be crowded out by other buildings. Showing a tower right on the waterfront when in fact it's two streets back from the water. There needs to be consumer protection legislation to stop such fraudulent claims.
(By the way, the tower is called Burj Dubai).
What really gets me is they actually sell postcards with this thing on. Yeah right. It makes you secretly hope it will never get built.
